Our sustainability initiatives

At Mother Earth, we care about the Earth. We’re lucky enough to live in a beautiful country, New Zealand, and we want to make sure it stays that way. But to do that, we all need to be playing our part. Here’s a few of the initiatives we’re taking to make sure we play ours.

Did you know that our packaging is recyclable?

Recycling reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and overall pollution. That’s why we’ve made our packaging as easy as possible to recycle!

Box recycling

You can recycle our cardboard packaging through the New Zealand kerbside paper recycling scheme.

Soft plastic

Soft plastics such as Mother Earth bar wrappers, nut pouches and savoury snack pouches can be recycled by taking them into a store participating in the NZ Soft Plastics Programme.

Plastic containers

The majority of Mother Earth spreads are in PET pots (no.1), which are recyclable in every region in New Zealand. Clover Blend and Native Bush honey are an exception because they’re in PP pots/plastic no.5, which are recycled in some parts of New Zealand.

Improving Packaging Sustainability

We’re updating our packaging to make them more environmentally friendly. This year, we are reducing the amount of plastic packaging by 20% in our entire range of nuts and switching to water-based inks for our cardboard packaging to make it even more sustainable.
